Alekos’ bio

Student Advisory Board, Volunteer & ALPS Podcast Coordinator

I grew up believing that all illicit drugs were dangerous for our health. I mean, that’s what most of us are taught from a young age. There must be a reason why they are illegal, right? Over time I started realizing that not everything is so black and white and that some substances such as psychedelics can actually have beneficial effects when used properly.

After learning about the effects of psychedelics and their use in psychotherapy and self-exploration, I became fascinated by these topics. This led me to study Pharmaceutical Sciences and Neurosciences in order to gain a better understanding of these substances.

I believe the world needs to be more open to the use of psychedelics for treating psychiatric and neurological disorders, to help the people who most need them. And for this, we need to increase knowledge-sharing and stop ignoring these “taboo” topics just because of what we were made to believe in the past.

When I found out about the existence of the student psychedelic research association of the University of Geneva (ARP), I joined it as soon as possible and got to discover this fantastic community that shares the same thoughts as me. Meeting people at ALPS Conferences increased my love for this community, especially spending time with other volunteers. It's why I'm taking on roles where I can help this beautiful community of highly motivated people work together and change the world.
